Personal Alarms - The Best Form Of Self Defense

Personal alarms are one of the best forms of self defense. Now some may say that that's a load of crap because a personal alarm can't actually stop an attacker, and it is true that it doesn't technically have any stopping power. However, my argument is two-fold: Personal alarms 1) are the perfect complement to any choice of self defense weapon with stopping power (pepper spray, stun gun etc...) and 2) will stop a confrontation outright a majority of the time. This being said, I hope you understand that I'm not saying a person armed with a Taser would lose to a person armed with a personal alarm in a Thunderdome-esque battle royale.

I hope the last sentence of the above paragraph gave you some nice imagery. Notice that, instead of what that scenario suggests, I'm arguing that personal alarms are the best form of self defense in another way: They are the most versatile, easy-to-carry (and use), inexpensive, and effective deterrents available. I believe that, for $10, all women should buy one of their choosing. Some attach to key chains; some have flashlights or other added features; and all emit an alarm in the ball park of... well a ball park. That's ~130 decibels at the touch of a button or pull of a string.

How do you use a personal alarm? As alluded to above, there are different kinds, but most are activated by either pushing a button or pulling a safety string. The idea is that you keep it somewhere easily accessible-on your keychain, in your purse, or in your pocket-so that it is easy to activate at a moment's notice.

When do you use a personal alarm? Use it as soon as you feel threatened! Obviously something this loud can cause serious discomfort to your ears, for the time being. But it's not going to be so much that your assailant couldn't physically bear it. The whole point of the alarm is to alert others, or at least make your attacker feel like there will soon be witnesses and people to stop him from what he's thinking about doing.

I mentioned the last sentence before; now I'll briefly get into what tools you can combo your personal alarm with. I am a huge proponent of non-lethal self defense weapons, so I believe every woman should choose her favorite between all the pepper spray, stun guns, and Tasers out there. These have similar stopping power to a.22 pistol, but are easier to carry, quicker to use, and are non-lethal. However, if you just feel more comfortable carrying a gun or knife, then do it! If you feel confident, you will look confident, and it is much less likely you'll ever get attacked in the first place!

Lastly I will mention that different women may prefer different types of personal alarms and self defense weapons in general. As I said above, just pick what you're most comfortable using. But also consider that you may want to carry a personal alarm on your keychain, but have a Taser in your purse, pepper spray in your glove compartment, and a stun gun in your night stand! Take whatever steps are necessary to protect yourself.

Types of Self Defense Weapons

Self defense weapons have become a necessity for every person now days. Today the moment you step out of your house you are not safe. You can get attacked anytime, anywhere. But that does not mean that you can stay inside the safety of your house all your life. You have to get out, be it for work or any other reason. The best thing to do for those people who are scared to walk the street in fear of an attacker is to carry self defense weapons with them. Today there are quite a number of self defense weapons available in the market. All of them have their different advantages and disadvantages. So, before going to the market and buying one self defense weapon for yourself you may read this article for some guide on which one you should buy.

Pepper sprays

Pepper sprays are one of the best types of self defense weapons. When sprayed on the attacker it causes inflammation in the mucus membranes of the attacker's eyes and nose of your attacker. The burning sensation will stop them in their tracks giving you enough time to run for your life. The best part about pepper sprays is that they can be sprayed on the attacker from a distance. But the negative part is that you have to spray it on the facial area of the attacker or else it will not work. Pepper Shot is a pepper spray made up of very fine grain of pepper and so is much more effective than other ordinary pepper sprays.

Stun Guns

Stun guns are also quite good self defense weapons. They produce an electric voltage which stops the functioning of the body muscles of your attacker. As their names suggest they absolutely stun your attacker. But the bad part about stun guns is that they have to come in contact with the attacker's body so that they can work. That means you can not use them on your attacker from a distance. Blue Stun Master is an 800000 volt stun gun which looks like a cell phone. Another option is the Z-force Stun Gun. It produces 300000 volts and can be tied to the wrist.

Mace pepper gels

Mace pepper gels are slimy pepper formulas. They can not be easily wiped out and melts in the face of the attacker giving a burning sensation. You can go for Mace Pepper Gel which is found in packs of 45 grams. They are also Mace Pepper Spray Hard Key cases available in the market with the help of which you can keep them in the purse or your pocket.

Learn to Defend Yourself - There Is a Huge Difference Between a Fight and a Self Defense Situation!

Do you know the difference between a fight and self defense situation? Many people don't. In fact, I would say that most people actually believe these two to be the same thing.

And yet, they're not!

Knowing the difference between a fight and an actual, dangerous situation where you are trying to defend yourself, can not only help you to insure that you are learning the right self defense techniques, but also that you're enrolled in the right self defense course! Do you want to know the difference between a street fight and a self defense situation? Then read on!

While martial arts schools and so-called experts - people who have never been in a real attack situation - who's only experience with fighting might have come from a pushing, shoving, "tough-guy" match in high school - will try to convince you that there isn't a difference at all. And yet...

The truth is that there is a world of difference between a fight and a self-defense situation. Every expert knows this because, unlike those who only know martial arts techniques, these people have actually "been there," and know what it's really like "inside" of the actual thing itself.

And, while an inexperienced instructor might give you lots of reasons for how and why these two different situations might be different - a true expert will keep it simple and make sure that you know the reasons that are the most important - the reasons that will effect your training, and keep you safe and alive in the moment that you're in one!

They would tell you that...

In one, the fight, you are a willing combatant who is usually evenly matched against an opponent of equal ability, size, etc. In the other, a life-threatening, self defense situation, you will almost always be the underdog - facing an assailant who does not fight fair, has probably surprised you when you weren't expecting anything, and will do anything to get what he wants from you - regardless of whether that's blood, your money, or your life!

Even the adrenal response that you're having is very different in these two situations. In fact, you can learn a lot about this adrenal response and the fight, flight, or freeze response in the book, "The Karate-Myth." But, the short version is that the difference is like wrestling with your brother or cousin as a kid versus being in a car crash. Everything is different, from the way your body responds to signals, to the way you see the world around you.

The point here is that, before you can begin to train AGAINST an attack, you must have someone who has actually "been there", in one, to help you to understand it - to know what you're going to be dealing with, from the inside. Even better would be to find a mentor who has been in many different types of attacks, from punching and kicking, to being grabbed, to having had to face knives and duck bullets.

Because, until you learn what you're going to be dealing with, everything you do will be like feeling your way around in a dark room. You'll have no idea what's going on, where you're going, or what you'll run into.

Effective self defense requires more than just a few "karate moves." It involves the ability to think strategically, and understand how to defend yourself with as little wear-and-tear on you as possible.

If you really want to know what most people don't know about how to master self defense and how to survive a real street attack, read my newest self defense book: "Fight Smarter - Not Harder!" It's available free at: http://www.warrior-concepts-online.com/street-fighting-self-defense-book.html

Jeffrey M. Miller is an internationally-known self defense expert. He is the author of the self defense book, "The Karate-Myth," and several other books and training videos. Each month he teaches literally thousands of students through live seminars, corporate training events, and his online self defense courses, the lessons to be able to survive in Today's often dangerous world.

Self Defense - How to Avoid Trouble

We all witness or face violence and yet ultimately the goal is to avoid trouble. There are bad guys lurking around just waiting to spot someone who seems to be an easy target. There are things you do that put you into that category. To avoid being an easy target, which sets you up for attack, you need to learn street smarts to avoid danger and trouble.

How to Avoid Trouble

1) Be confident but not cocky. Walk with good confident posture and look like a person on a mission. You're powerful and confident and on your way.

2) Be cool, don't engage people at a bar, keep the conversation light and non opinionated.

Don't stand out, don't attract attention with fancy jewelry, watches or flash cash expensive phones or iPads around in public, you're asking to get mugged.

3) Stay with the pack, don't walk around alone, stay with a group. Be aware of what going on ahead of you, don't walk into a large group of people, walk around or cross the street long before you get to them.

4) Last but not least follow your gut. If you sense trouble take it seriously. Instincts are a powerful tool that should not be over looked or shrugged off. Listen to your gut and avoid trouble.

There are times when violence comes from out of no where. It is for this reason self defense training or classes are a good idea. I strongly feel everyone should have some degree of self defense training. As mentioned earlier, criminals have a good eye for spotting someone who's an easy mark. A person with self defense training has an air of confidence that lets the attacker know I don't think this person will fold under my pressure. They want easy targets.

Don't be an easy target. Remember the things we discussed here today about the first line of self defense and avoid trouble with the powerful tips and guides.

Here is what I've got; a website with options! Jump over to avoid trouble and learn more about Self Defense How to Avoid Trouble!

Self Defense for Women Living Alone

Many women live alone these days, in apartments, condos and their own homes. We have as much right to live as we please as any man. We shouldn't have to live any differently or take any special precautions, but, unfortunately, we should. Self defense for women living alone is a set of habits that can help keep us safe by creating the illusion that we don't live alone and avoidance tactics that make us difficult targets.

If you are moving into an apartment building do not take an apartment on the lower level or the ground floor. These floors offer the most opportunity for window break-ins. Likewise, if you live in a home, make sure the windows on the lower floors are secure (locked from the inside- curtains closed) and free of any outside visual obstruction, such as bushes and other landscaping material, so it can be easily seen from the street and neighbors.

Speaking of neighbors-get to know yours. You don't need to make them all your BFFs. You just need to get familiar with them. You could all watch out for each other. They could also provide you with a safe haven if you found yourself in a situation in which you didn't feel your own home was safe- someone was in your home-or you suspected someone was or had been.

When identifying your mail box, buzzer or door use your last name and first initial only- no Miss, Mrs. or Ms. Have a peephole in your main door and don't answer it unless you can identify the visitor. Never let on that you are alone to unfamiliar people. You may wish to yell, "I'll get it!" after checking the peephole and before opening the door. If a service person comes to the door unexpectedly, visualize their ID and call the company to make sure they are for a legitimate service call.

If you have an answering machine on your land line phone don't include your name, just your number if you feel that is necessary. Don't state that you are not home, only that "we" can't come to the phone right now. I have seen the suggestion that you have a male friend or relative record the message- although that may also deter potential dates. If you don't have it, get caller ID.

Lock your outside doors- this one should be an easy habit to learn. Let's not make it easy for these perps! If you live in an apartment building always lock the outside door, doors to common areas and of course the door to your residence. Chain locks, while giving a secure feeling, are actually easy to be broken with a shoulder or a kick. Deadbolts are great as long as they are properly installed and locked. For added security a deadbolt can be installed on the backside (inside) of a door. It can only be locked from the inside and can't be picked. For more information please visit self defense for women/home security.

This brings us to keys. Do not mark your keys with any ID. Have separate keys rings for your cars and home. Do not leave your garage door opener in your car in case your car is stolen. Do not leave a spare set of keys in the usual places that can be a no brainer for perps. Always have your keys ready when approaching your car or home. Have the one you need in you hands ready to use.

As always self defense for women is a lot of common sense techniques practiced faithfully until they are second nature. For more information please visit personal safety.

Self-Defense For Single Women in the City - What Should You Do to Protect Yourself?

When it comes to protection, women endure more risk than men. Whether it's from thieves, stalkers, or any other criminal, you can end up in a dangerous situation. It seems as though several individuals are looking to victimize a defenseless woman who is traveling by herself. Maybe in the parking garage after work, the parking lot at the local mall, or sometimes in broad daylight you could be dealing with a predator. Whatever the case may be it's a big reason why women are getting their own taser gun.

Some women don't believe they can protect themselves, but you can if you have the right tools. A taser gun is a great choice, and it allows you to take control of your own personal safety. They are not considered lethal at all, plus you can conceal them with ease. Utilizing this "advantage of surprise" you are able to overcome the situation quickly and run for help.

Most assailants don't expect you to put up much of a fight, but if you have a taser gun they will be caught off-guard. This allows you to control the situation better and disable them. So even if the criminal is bigger than you the taser gun will level the playing field. Another benefit is that you won't have to be right next to your attacker in order to see results. These offer as much as 15 feet ranges that will allow you to catch them before they catch you.

If you're not familiar with a taser gun, it's a device that can immobilize a target with electricity. The would be assailant loses control of his or her legs and immediately falls to the ground. Granted, the effects are short, but it's just enough time for you to go find help or simply escape and call the police. The taser is still active and you can press the switch and give the assailant another shock. Ultimately, the idea is to immobilize the assailant and get out of harms way. Once the taser is turned off the criminal can get back on their feet and start pursuing you again. It's also important to understand that you won't cause permanent damage when you use a taser gun either. It's main objective is to disable the assailant temporarily.

So if you want to protect yourself all the time, consider purchasing a taser gun. There are several different options available, which will allow you to find one that is comfortable. In the end, it's all about having peace of mind and feeling safe with your surroundings. A taser gun will allow you to do this, and keep you out of harm's way if someone tries to victimize you.

How To Buy Self Defense Products

We all think we will be able to stay composed, and be in control in the event of an attack. But the truth is, you never know just how we would react when our life of personal safety in at risk. But, surrender is not an option. When all else fails, yell, scream, bite, scratch, kick, and do whatever you can to survive. What factors come in to play when making a decision to purchase a self defense product?

1. Convenience

Confrontations are usually unplanned. Meaning, you never know when a situation may arise. Whether it be walking to your car in a parking garage, could be at a sporting event, domestic violence, or while shopping. But in the event some type of disturbance does occur, you want to be able to have easy access you're your choice of self defense product. Examples of convenience/easy access items include: pepper sprays, keychain alarms, and kubotans.

2. Ease of use

In the midst of a confrontation, the last thing you need is to have a personal protection product that you can't use. The ideal product is something that is simple to operate and is a natural reaction. Something as simple as point and shoot, pulling a trigger, pressing a button, or even swing and hit are reactionary impulses. When situations arise, many time we do not have time to think. We have to react. Example of ease of use/reactionary products: Stun guns, pepper sprays, stun baton, and telescopic steel batons.

3. Effectiveness

Stopping power. Attention getters. There's no time for taking a chance when someone is threatening you or a loved one. We want to make sure that our choice of personal protection products will get the job done. Effectiveness is still a matter of personal preference also. Some people may feel that they need a 4 million volt stun gun that will flat out knock someone on the behind, while others may feel comfortable with a keychain alarm that emits an extremely loud noise when activated. Many of these products have been time tested and proven to be effective in almost any situation.

4. Cost

Although you can't put a dollar value on life, the most expensive is not always better. However, as the saying goes... you get what you pay for. Self defense products range from the $4 kubotan to the $60 stungun. Again, cost matters, but I would not let cost be the overwhelming determining factor as to which product works best for you.

Self Defense From Sexual Victimization and Stalking

Do you have a niece or daughter or sister that is starting college? These are young women that should have personal protection devices. As a parent, that over-whelming flood of emotions can be intense. The excitement you feel as your loved one embarks on their next stage. The sadness felt for letting go. The fear of not being there to protect them is perhaps the strongest. It should be. Sexual assault is believed to be one of the most under-reported crimes. This is especially true on college campuses - especially towards women. Usually, sexual assaults on a college campus are by someone the victim knows which makes the situation worse. If this it is not difficult enough, the victim may go to a small college, or may have been involved alcohol or drugs. In the Department of Justice National Institute of Justice Report titled 'Sexual Victimization of College Women', the department study noted that 'College campuses host large concentrations of women who are at greater risk of rape and other forms of sexual assault than women in general population or in a comparable age group.' It noted that 'in a college with 10,000 women could experience 350 rapes per year'. Based on the study, it is estimated that 27.7 rapes per 1000 students.

Due to these frightful statistics, our young women can carry the runt stun gun. The Runt is easily concealable and virtually undetectable in the hand of a woman. What your attacker doesn't see can drop him to his knees. The Runt uses new cutting edge technology to delivery super powered protection from a hand-sized personal protection device. The study also looked what could increase the risk of a college female being sexual assaulted. There are four main factors that consistently increase the risk. The first is frequently drinking enough to get drunk. The next contributor is being unmarried. The next factor is being a previous victim prior to the beginning of the school year. Finally, living on campus is a large factor. If your child is living on campus, there are numerous items that your child can use that will provide piece of mind. The Super Door Alarm is a simple device that will alert your loved one as well as those others living on campus that an unwanted individual is in the area.

Another type of attack on a person is stalking. Stalking can tear a person apart mentally and emotionally. If someone repeatedly followed, emailed, phoned, emailed, wrote, or otherwise seemed obsessive and made you afraid or concerned for your safety, which is considered stalking. The most common forms of stalking are telephoning, waiting for the person inside or outside, being watched from afar, being followed, being sent letters and being emailed. Another women self defense products that can protect your loved one from stalking is the Telespy™ Motion Intruder Alarm. It is a powerful combination or telephone, motion detector and microphone. The TeleSpy is an ordinary telephone that doubles as a monitoring system. Simply enter any phone number you want the unit to call and turn the motion sensor switch to on. Should motion be detected the phone will dial the number entered and upon answering you will be able to listen in via the amplified microphone on the unit. The TeleSpy allows you to decide from a safe location if it is a friend or foe before you call the police. The listening period is about 30 seconds, then the TeleSpy disconnects and instantly re-arms to detect again and again. TeleSpy operates from any phone line, requires no installation, and is completely portable. No monitoring fees, no false alarms.

As a parent, you may never eliminate the fear when your loved one leaves, but you can reduce it. All the while protecting your loved one by simple personal protection devices.

How the Fairer Sex Can Use Self Defense Techniques for a Fairer Fight

There seems to be a severe lack of quality self defense techniques taught to women. This paucity of protection for women is worrying when you consider that they are the victims in the majority of cases. Yet it is noticeable that virtually all courses which profess to be unisex are nothing of the sort. It is idiocy to suggest that an average woman will be able to perform the same techniques based on size and strength as the average man. According to studies, even if men and women were the same size, men would be over twice as strong naturally. So again, why are we still seeing programs geared towards women that are actually rehashed versions of male-friendly courses?

Hand to hand combat training for women has to be specialized. There are certainly moves that can performed by women just as well as by men but there are not enough of them to fully protect the female species. First things first, why do programs insist on telling women to hit men in the groin as their first move? This is exactly what a male attacker expects them to do initially. They make not expect them to strike them in the knee or throat with ferocity however. The groin is the perfect place to hit a man but you have to keep them preoccupied before striking there. Force them to block another blow then unleash a devastating strike to the nether regions. Women can be trained to strike fiercely and such force will certainly surprise any thug.

It is irritating to hear women who refuse to do weight training on the grounds that they don't want to look 'masculine'. In order to carry out self defense techniques with power, you need to increase your strength and exercising with weights is the best way to do this. A million repetitions with tiny pink dumbbells won't get it done either. Women need to learn how to lift heavy. Their fear of becoming 'muscle-bound' is unfounded. If it was so easy to gain muscle, how come 90% of guys you see in the gym everyday are not bulky? Getting huge is hard work and will not happen by accident. As long as you keep the training down to three sessions a week and not eat large amounts of protein, they will be fine.

Aside from having the power to carry out effective hand to hand combat training, women should also carry self defense weapons with them. A stun gun, taser gun or pepper spray are all good choices. The last thing a thug expects to see when attacking what they presume to be a scared woman is a stun gun that will have them twitching on the floor within a second. Make sure that the weapon you purchase is within state laws however.

Women should not have to live their life in fear nor should they have to suffer from poor self defense techniques shown to them by male instructors. If you are considering a self defense course, be sure to find one with a female trainer. Don't be afraid to increase your strength or carry weapons with you either.

Self Defense Products - Why Nurses Need Stun Guns - Top Four Reasons

Self defense products are a group of items that provide a nonlethal alternative to the deadly force of a handgun. They have been used by police officers law enforcement agencies for years in one form or another. Pepper sprays, stun guns and tasers which are used by over 11,000 police agencies.

The purpose of self defense products is to give you time to get away from a dangerous situation and seek help.

When I first started doing some research for this article I was shocked at some of the things that I learned. Why would a nurse need a self defense product working in a hospital?

There are four reasons that stand out.

1. First, the International Association of Healthcare Security and safety is reporting that 70 percent of all hospitals are located in average or above-average violent crime areas. The area around the hospital is a breeding ground for crime.

2. Second, because of shortages of staff and widespread drug and alcohol use by emergency room patients the number of assaults, beatings, stabbings even rapes is way above average as well.

3. Third because most people working in the nursing profession are women. Women are the targets of violence in nine out of ten times for everything from street assaults to domestic violence to home burglary and home invasion to carjacking, women are the preferred targets in 90 percent of the cases.

4. The fourth reason is that nurses frequently work odd shifts more than practically any other occupation. This frequently places them is darkened stairwells and deserted parking lots at odd hours placing them at greater risk of assault.

Those are four good reasons why nurses need a self defense product in a hospital setting.

A stun gun makes more sense than others. They are hand held devices with two prongs on one end that conduct an electrical charge. When that electrical charge is applied to an assailant for 3 to 5 seconds it causes the body to overwork and deplete it of all blood sugars needed for energy. It will incapacitate an assailant for five to fifteen minutes giving you time to get away.

No long-term damage is done by the charge. When are you getting one?

Best Self Defense Products for Women - The Four Most Popular

Unless you've been living in a cave somewhere you can't help but notice in the local paper or on the evening news that women are the targets of violence by a substantial margin over men-9 to 1 to be exact. And that's here in the United States. In other parts of the world it is much worse. It is just an unfortunate fact of life that women are at some point in their lives going to be subjects of a crime.

It can be anything from rape, domestic violence, assault, robbery, street crime, home invasions, or even carjacking. The sooner that women realize this the sooner they can start preparing to defend themselves adequately. And I'm not trying to put fear in everybody-just sound the warning bell.

Knowing that they are at risk is the first step. The second step is to get some products that can actually help protect them. After four years in the business of selling self defense products here are the four most popular self defense products for women based on sales and personal experience.

The first is the C-2 taser. It shoots out two electrified darts up to 15 feet away for nearly 100 percent take down rate. It police tests they have more stopping power than a 9 mm handgun. Nearly 11,000 police agencies in this country and agencies in six foreign countries carry tasers. Is that endorsement enough?

The second is the Mace pepper gun. The Mace pepper gun carries more OC spray than most pepper sprays. It has enough for seven 25 foot shots. It is equally effective against human assailants as it is against charging dogs. It can be used effectively against multiple attackers should the situation warrant.

The third one is the pretender stun gun. It looks like a camera cell phone and but isn't. Instead it is a powerful stun gun-4.5 million volts to be exact. One of the most powerful in the world.

The fourth is a personal alarm-the electronic pocket whistle. This handy device not only can draw attention to a dangerous situation you may be in but it can also scare away attackers with 120 dB whistle. It comes with a handy key chain attachment. Just press a button and the whistle sounds.

These are the for best most popular self defense products for women. When are you getting one?

Best Self Defense Products For Nurses Inside and Outside The Hospital

When I started doing research for this article I had no idea of the danger that nurses were in on a day to day basis. Here are a few facts. Almost two thirds of all hospitals are in areas that are above average or average high crime. This fact from the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety. So they work in high risk areas.

Because of increased stress due to low staffing ratios and rampant drug and alcohol abuse, assaults, stabbings, shootings, rapes and beatings are all on the rise inside hospitals.

On average, workplace violence reports that there are nearly 1,000 murders and 1.5 million assaults every year with two thirds of them happening in healthcare settings. Nearly 50% of the nursing population is affected by violence in the workplace. That my friends is a very scary statistic.

Hospitals are putting procedures in place to handle rage and violence with visible security personnel, security cameras and equipment and classes teaching nurses basic self-defense techniques.

Self defense weapons like stun guns are being carried by nurses more often than not. For inside the hospital that may be perfectly good, but they face great risk outside the hospital because of the neighborhood areas that they're located in. Conditions like darkened stairwells inside the hospital, working late shifts and walking to the parking garage that may or may not be covered and probably is poorly lit at that are all breeding grounds for crime.

Self defense products are nonlethal by nature and offer the user an opportunity to get away from an assailant and a dangerous situation.

Perhaps the best self defense product for a nurse to carry in her purse is the Mace pepper gun. It shoots out seven 25 foot shots of oleoresin capsicum better known as OC spray. This spray causes intense pain, tearing of the eyes so bad that they shut, choking, coughing and shortness of breath. And oh yeah, it also causes a great deal swearing by the assailant.

Its' effects can last anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes giving you more than enough time to get away. It is perhaps the most effective self defense product you can use outside of the hospital.

Inside the hospital I would not recommend using it. Even though the spray from the Mace pepper gun is very accurate, wayward spray could affect patients or innocent bystanders. Inside the hospital, the pretender stun gun with 4.5 million volts of power that will put anyone down.

Don't fall victim to crime, especially when you're at work. Start defending yourself with some self defense products.

Getting Serious With Your Self Defense Training - Learning to Think and Act Like a Real Expert!

For all of the martial arts and self defense training programs being offered all over the world, the sad fact is that the majority of these self defense courses are limited to teaching students step-by-step techniques, rather than the knowledge that will allow them to be the most effective - regardless of how many techniques they actually know!

This article answers the question that is asked by the most astute students: "How do I learn to think like a police officer, FBI agent, or other self defense and combat expert?" "I want to think like you guys. How do I do that?"

And the reality is that the ability that these students are asking about - the ability to know...

  • What to do

  • When to do it, and...

  • How to know that something is going to happen before it does...

...simply does not happen overnight, or after only a few classes. As much as you want to be a Black Belt right now, or to be able to be invincible against a hoard of "bad guys," the reality is that you are going to not only have to put in a lot of time, effort, and hard work, but you're going to have to focus on the right things in getting there.

Otherwise, all you'll have is a bunch of knowledge, and very little ability.

So, how do you begin to think about real-world self defense like an expert - like the men and women who have jobs that require them to "get it right the first time?" You begin by...

Knowing what to look for - and then training, developing, and increasing your level of awareness so that you are able to recognize the danger signals BEFORE the assailant can make his move.

You then learn effective methods for controlling, escaping from, and directing the situation so that you have the greatest advantage.

And, finally... you learn effective techniques for protecting yourself against the most probable attacks that you are likely to deal with.

I know how easy this sounds, but again... it's not!

If it were easy, neither I, nor any other self defense expert, online or off, would have a reason to teach what we do. Because... you and everyone else would already know!

Self defense is a very deep and complex subject. Don't ever let anyone else - including these ya-hoos on the internet, with their, "Drop any attacker in 2 seconds," scams - tell you any different! There are, literally, a ton of variables, options, and situations where you could find yourself. And, if you get it wrong, you don't get to "start over."

Remember, the above guidelines are only offered as such. They are not meant to be the "be all, to end all" of your lessons. Nor, should they be seen as the exact order in which to learn things in your training. The reality is that, to learn how to think and act like professionals and experts do every day, you are going to have to put in the time, effort, and yes, money to learn what you must...

...if you are going to actually have a chance at surviving a real life attack with more than luck and the grace of whatever force in the Universe you believe in.

As one of my teachers told me way back in the day...

"Somewhere in the world, someone is training to hurt people. And, if you are not training, (or not training correctly), and you meet him...

...you will lose!"

Self Defense Products - How to Use Your Stun Gun - Top Tips

Self defense products, including stun guns, pepper sprays, taser's and batons are a nonlethal alternative to deadly force. They've been used for decades by police departments all over the world with great success. That is partly why they have become enormously successful in the civilian community. Civilian models are very effective, cost efficient, easy to carry and easy to hide. Many of them can be disguised as well.

Stun devices are the second most popular self defense products next pepper sprays. Power voltages range from 80,000 to 4.5 million volts. On average they are 86% effective. Assailants are on drugs or are drunk may not be affected by them.

The purpose of all self defense products is to immobilize an attacker long enough to give you time to get away. In the case of stun tools that is usually 5 to 10 minutes. When you apply one to an assailant for 3 to 5 seconds it causes the body to overwork, rapidly depleting it of all blood sugars needed for energy. So the assailant can do nothing.

Before you need it for self defense, it is best to find out how to use it. Here are some tips.

1. Make sure you follow the directions. Misuse may void the warranty, cause injury to you or worse yet not work properly in time of need.

2. Check for legality in your state either online or at your local police department.

3. Learn where to apply the stun gun. Six optimum targets right and left upper hip, upper shoulders and below the rib cage.

4. Know where the safety switch is to avoid accidental firing. Keep your fingers away from the contacts.

5. Practice-get used to the sound and flying sparks so you are not startled. Practice so it becomes second nature to you.

Follow these tips and this self defense item will protect you in your time of need.

Anger's Place in Self Defense

When it comes to self defense we should all have a plan, or several plans of escape. Many factors will vary in every situation: location, time of day, type of attack, etc. You should always have a set of techniques that you can practice and execute at will. They should not be complicated or complex.

We can usually think clearer when we are calm. But most of us are not going to remain calm once we realize we are in a self defense situation, so let's go with angry instead of serene.

If you practice awareness and avoidance techniques until they are habitual, hopefully you would have less chance of using your plan. There should be less chance of a total surprise attack against you. If you were walking and sensed someone walking up behind you and gaining on you, you should turn directly toward them and look them in the eye.

Looking someone in the eye serves a couple purposes. When you make eye contact you may be able to evaluate the person and try to determine if they are, in fact, a threat to you. If you decide they are just someone in a hurry and mean you no harm you can then look off in the distance, after a quick smile and nod, like you were looking for something else.

If this person was a threat, your act of making eye contact can be enough to make them change they minds. Women who make solid eye contact usually do not have self esteem issues and women who do have low self esteem make easier victims. If you do have low self esteem, don't show it! Making eye contact with an attacker also eliminates an attack from the back!

What if you turn around, make eye contact and you perceive a threat? Get angry! If they continue toward you simply start yelling for them to get away from you. A likely reaction would be for the offender to look at you like you are crazy and walk the other way. Perps don't like to make a scene! How embarrassing! Better embarrassed than attacked.

What if he continues toward you and grabs you. Forget etiquette- this is no time to be polite! Remember no one has the right to touch you with out your permission! This person means to harm you. He's probably larger and stronger than you are. He probably has a plan. You need the element of surprise. You need to surprise him by getting angry- real angry.

Whatever physical techniques you have practiced, you will now execute with all the angry energy you can muster. Yelling, again, is great, not only to discourage the attack, but to help focus your power. Push, shove, hit, kick and/or stomp as hard and as fast as you can and just keep it coming. As Jessie Wales said, "Time to get plain mad dog mean!"

Use any "dirty" trick you can think of. Slam your elbow into his throat, gouge his eyes, knee his groin- but only if you are already in that close- don't move in for any of the techniques. Remember the goal is to escape. Study pressure points for information on pressure point self defense.

As soon as his grip is loosened, run. Run hard and fast to the nearest populated place and call the police. Hopefully you can remember and give an accurate description of the perp.

Anger does have a use in self defense, as long as you can think clearly and harness that power to deliver effective techniques to expedite your escape.

Self-Defense Kits For Your Family's Security

Security kits (also known as safety, self-defense, or survival kits) are made up of a combination of all the basic tools needed for ones self-defense protection. They are designed to give you non-lethal choices for home security and self-defense. These self-defense kits, whether they be purchased for home or travel use, can give your loved ones the ability to protect themselves from situations which may cause damage to personal possessions and other property, or proves to be life threatening.

Safety kits are especially beneficial if you live in a location where conventional type weaponry, such as knives or guns, are illegal or restricted. They will afford you the capability to seize control of a dangerous situation in a breaking and entering or personal assault. Having possession of self-defense tools can give you the confidence and security required to handle any such events if and when they do arise.

There are a variety of self-defense kits available on the market, which are made up with an assortment of staple security items depending on the purpose of the particular kit. They may contain various non-lethal devices, such as pepper sprays, stun guns and personal alarms designed to help you ward off an attacker. Family survival kits are specifically structured for home and family defense. Anyone can take advantage of the safety afforded by one of these kits which were developed with families and home protection in mind.

Self-defense survival kits include OC pepper spray which you can take with you in your purse, backpack, or on your person. Once an attacker comes into contact with the pepper spray, the sensitive membranes in his or her nose, esophagus, and lungs will become highly irritated, causing pain and difficulty in breathing. A heavy-duty version of the handy defense spray, the pepper spray home fogger that comes with one type of kit, can be used to disperse a cloud or fog of pepper spray to stop a group of uninvited intruders who enter your home. This kit also gives you access to a 200,000-volt stun gun, which can even stop the bulkiest of attackers almost instantly with a discharge of electricity that temporarily short-circuits the aggressor's nervous system. Both kits also come with personal alarms, which emit a sharp, ear-piercing sound once you press the button, calling attention to yourself and any potentially dangerous situations and deterring the perpetrator.

Some security kits come with instructional manuals to optimize your use of the self-defense equipment. They are also include with a number of safety reports. These guides provide you with information on how to defend yourself should you be faced with a dangerous situation. The knowledge you receive from these guides will enhance your use of the family safety kits by teaching you in the proper use of these tools.

The safety of you and your family in these dangerous times is something you should invest in, as statistics state that our everyday lives are at risk. In the United States, sexual assault occurs once every two minutes, crime against property once every three seconds, burglary once every ten seconds, violent crime once every twenty seconds, and robbery once every minute. Make sure that you top the odds in your favor by having a safety kit accessible to defend yourself, property and loved ones should the need ever arise.

Self Defense for Women - The Taser C2 Is Their Best Friend

If you watch the evening news or read your local newspaper you will notice that the vast majority of assaults, incidents of domestic violence, rapes, robberies even home invasions are committed against women. Of course there are exceptions but usually men are vastly superior in size and strength to women. Unfortunately that translates to women being victims in nine out of ten cases where violence is involved.

So it is no wonder that self defense product manufacturers have started designing products that appeal specifically to women. Companies like Stun Master, Mace brand and Taser International all have a key part of their product line devoted to products that appeal to women. Probably no other product on the market today is more effective for women than the taser C2.

It was introduced about three years ago by Taser brand from Arizona. It was developed out of the tremendous success of other models of the taser product line that police officers use. All models of the taser basically work the same way. They all do the same thing. They shoot out two electrified darts up to 15 feet. The darts are charged with 50,000 volts of electricity. The big difference here between a taser and a stun gun is in the wattage. Tasers have nearly twice the level of wattage of a stun gun.

Is the queen of self defense products which provide an alternative to deadly force that is non lethal. The idea of self defense products is to give you time to escape from a bad situation and seek help. It certainly does that and they all do. But Taser International claims that in studies done the C-2 is nearly 100% effective. It is much smaller than its brothers and even comes in six fashionable colors.

That is why the taser C2 is the best friend a woman can have for self defense.

Oh by the way after you get your C-2 you have to pass a background check before the product can be activated. So if you have a felony record maybe you want to consider something else. When are you getting one?
