Rape Realities - Pepper Spray Is Viable Protection

FACT: ONE IN THREE AMERICAN WOMEN WILL BE SEXUALLY ASSAULTED IN HER LIFETIME!

Consider also these unfortunate statistics: In the U.S. 1.3 women are raped every minute, that results in 78 rapes each hour and 683,280 rapes a year! As for women who attend college, one in 4 have either been raped or suffered attempted rape!

Most women don't even report to authorities that they were involved in a rape, the statistics are that only about 16% report so. There are many reasons for this, each woman is different of course but some are concerned with threats made to them, recriminations and the stigma involved with being raped. The victim sometimes concludes that it is better to hide the fact that it occurred and just tries to forget about it. We all know that the trauma, of course, will never subside and most women will need some psychological help sooner or later to try to deal with the memory.

The truth is, some men who commit these atrocious acts try to justify their actions by saying that the woman was flaunting her sexuality and "WAS ASKING FOR IT!" Lets understand one thing Ladies.. There is no excuse or justification for a crime against your person, you have sole right to your body, it is inviolable and sacred! Any kind of guilt associated with rape should not be borne by the victim, the perpetrator is solely responsible for the criminal act!

Even armed with these truths, the fact is, that in your lifetime you will be more than likely faced with such a possibility occurring at some time. You might ask yourself, "WHAT CAN I DO TO MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING TO ME?" Well, here are a few tips that might prove helpful:

1. Most rapes are committed by a boyfriend or acquaintance. You should set your sexual boundaries with them from the start if possible. Make them aware of what you consider acceptable or not.

2. If you are being set upon, yell at the top of your voice "NO!" "THIS IS RAPE!" this will hopefully shock him into reality and he will realize that its wrong. This will also call attention to your plight and possibly bring help!

3. When you go out, try to have a companion with you at all times, there is strength in numbers.

4. In the case of date rape, over 88% of rapes occur on the drive home, this means that it would be wise to get a ride home with a friend.

5. With date drugs so prevalent these days, you should never drink something that has been poured for you without your knowledge. Pour your own drinks. Of course, you should also watch your excessive consumption of alcohol because most rapes occur when the victim is drunk this is because you cannot adequately resist or fight back in a drunken stupor.

6. Probably the most important tool you have as a woman is your intuition! You can sometimes sense when a situation is going awry, go with this feeling, remove yourself from the environment before something happens!

These instances are examples of something that you just might have some control over but I am a realist, you should be also, there are myriad other occasions where assaults might happen. The fact is that woman are physically weaker than males and these predators take advantage of this. SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD AND GIVE YOURSELF A DECIDED ADVANTAGE?

THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE ANY WOMAN IS TO CARRY AN EFFECTIVE PERSONAL PROTECTION PRODUCT WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES!

The two devices that all woman should have with them constantly are: PEPPER SPRAY and a PERSONAL ALARM!

Pepper Spray is effective at stopping an attacker cold! The effects will cause the attackers eyes to swell shut and he will cough violently. Personal Alarms are small alarms that are very loud when activated by pressing a button or pulling a wrist strap. They will signal to those in your vicinity that you are in trouble and your attacker will more than likely flee the area. These two protection devices are very effective Ladies! They could even save your life in some instances.

Coed Safety Strategies and Personal Protection Items

The college safety tips that my older brother shared was in time as I was preparing to enter university. He warned me to always be careful as there are crimes happening on campus like mugging, theft and date rape. Victims of date rape are often those who drink too much alcohol.

He told me about the SafeFamilyLife Extreme College Survival Kit that he came across on the Internet. As I browsed on the website myself, I was calmed knowing that there are personal protection gadgets available, not to mention college safety tips.

Four variations of pepper sprays are included in the SafeFamilyLife Extreme College Survival Kit, all capable of inducing pain on the attacker from six to ten feet. One can dangle from a key chain, and another, hidden in the car visor. There is one pepper spray that is mountable on any wall.

The Lipstick Pepper Spray is a potent device that can render an attacker helpless for 45 minutes. The Electronic Pocket Whistle can fit any purse or pocket, useful when one needs attention. The 1/2 oz. pepper spray can be mounted on the wall at home.

The manual explained how the Nap Alarm can be very helpful for drivers. An alarm is set off as it senses the head move down as in a sleep. I can surely use this when I need to stay all night to study.

A diversion safe designed like a book was really a good addition to the kit, an inconspicuous way to hide valuables. The door stop alarm that went with the kit produces an alarm when the door is forced open.

The Cell Phone Lite was so useful when I had to quickly find something in the dark. It can easily be attached to my cell phone. I was ready to enter university after going through all the college safety tips.

The SafeFamilyLife Extreme College Survival Kit further includes practical college safety tips from intensive studies made so that students can enjoy college life safely.
